Located in Newport News. This multipurpose center has 80,415 square feet of recreation space that includes a:
- 500-seat natatorium with a 50-meter indoor pool
- 10 competitive scored and timed lanes
- three-meter diving board
- two one-meter diving boards and a 14-foot diving well
It also holds a 200 seat gymnasium with a full basketball court and indoor walking/jogging track.The center also features:
- therapeutic and mature adult recreation areas
- seven multipurpose rooms
- 14,000 square feet outdoor covered area for basketball and special events
This 50,000 square foot facility opened in 2012 andl features two gymnasiums, a dance room, multi-purpose rooms and a concession/cafe area in Newport News, VA.
A variety of fitness classes are offered including yoga, morning exercise classes, Tai Chi and Essentrics: Aging Backwards. The center also hosts special events such as periodic health screenings, speaker's bureau, cultural enrichment programs and educational seminars.
Open recreation in the gym is offered Thursdays and Fridays from 1 to 4pm, and includes pickleball, badminton, cornhole and basketball. Semi-annual pickeball and cornhold fun days are also held at the center.
The center is located in the Stonebrook area of Newport News and is open to the public!

Located on the campus of Christopher Newport University in Newport News, VA. The Freeman Center is a state of the art multipurpose facility with seating for 5,000. The center features:
- three basketball courts
- 200-meter indoor track
- volleyball court
- restaurant
- 10,000 square feet of fitness and wellness space
The facility is the performance venue for CNU's Men's & Women's basketball, indoor track and volleyball programs
The Huntington Park Tennis Center offers many activities on their 20 lighted hard-courts such as
- Tournaments
- Leagues
- Classes and Clinics
- Taught by City Tennis Professional Harvey Robinson.
The center also offers racquet stringing, ball machine and backboard rental. The Park includes a beach, playground, and a museum. Seating capacity: 150 at each of the three main courts.
* Site of the regional and state USTA Junior and Adult tournament and also the site of the AAU Junior Olympic Games tennis competition as well as the 2003 National Senior Games.
Newport News Golf Club at Deer Run is a public facility with 36 holes of championship golf. Newport News Golf Club at Deer Run has the ability to host starting time or shotgun events for as few as 24 or as many as 288 golfers.
- The Deer Run Golf Course is a spectacular Ed Ault designed Championship Golf Course. The 7,206 course will test the mettle of even the most experienced golfer. Cut among Virginia hardwoods, the players rarely see another group of golfers. Curious white tail deer and the abundance of wildlife have caused it to be listed on the National Audubon Society Registry.

Newport News Golf Club at Deer Run has a variety of practice areas centrally located to the Clubhouse.

There is a bent grass putting green and a Bermuda grass chipping green available for practicing.

The driving range has 25 stations that the golfer has the ability to hit off grass or mats. The range is over 320 yards deep with three target greens and marked yardages.

The balls for the range are Pinnacle Range Balls, which are replaced with new balls every year.
This 8,000-acre park with two fresh water reservoirs is one of the largest municipal parks east of the Mississippi. The park features a campground, golf course, stage, ropes and initiatives course, horsehow arena, disc golf course, watercraft rentals, 30-miles of hiking trails, 5-mile mountain bike trail, and a 5.3-mile bikeway.
POMOCO Stadium debuted in 2001, along with the Christopher Newport football program, and played host to CNU’s first game in history, against Salisbury on Sept. 1, 2001. Although the official capacity is listed at 4,200, a total of 6,135 crammed their way in through the use of portable stands and standing room to watch that initial contest. The Captains averaged 4,630 in 2001, ranking ninth in NCAA Division III attendance, and sold out all four home games. In 2002 they averaged 3,948 per game, including one in very inclement weather, and ranked eighth in Division III. In 2003 the stadium project was completed with the addition of brick facade, permanent concession stands and rest rooms, a large press box and beautiful President’s Suite. POMOCO Stadium has one of the finest grass playing surfaces in the South and has already been host to summer camps featuring many NFL players.
Riverview Gymnastics Center is home to the Flipateers and Superkids (competitive and show gymnastics teams) and the city Arts dance team. Some of the Center’s features include:
- A 9,200 square foot gymnastics area offering activity and instruction for preschool through competitive gymnasts - equipped with state of the art equipment, and a tumble track
- One multi-purpose classroom
- A balcony / multi purpose room with viewing glass overlooking the gym
- Two mirrored dance studios
In addition, this center also hosts a variety of aerobics, dance, marital arts, and children's sports classes offered through the Instructional Classes Program and birthday parties.
