Apprentice School football players honored at Celebration of College Football banquet

Apprentice School football standouts Larry Peterson and Blake Penix were honored at the Celebration of College Football awards banquet Tuesday, Jan. 31. at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott.

The banquet was sponsored by the Hampton Roads Sports Commission.

Peterson, a senior offensive lineman from Virginia Beach, started nine games this season before suffering a season-ending injury against Wesley College. He was a second-team All-Atlantic Central Football Conference lineman as a junior.

Penix, a freshman punter from Georgia, was a first-team All-State College Division punter by the Virginia Sports Information Directors Association. He averaged 36 yards per punt and made four of his seven field-goal attempts.

Old Dominion's Ronnie Cameron was named the top defensive player of the year. William & Mary's Jonathan Grimes earned offensive player of the year honors at the banquet.
