NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) - Head coach Trent Yawney is trying to teach mental toughness with a reminder of last years late season collapse.
Some 26 players arrived in Norfolk this week for the first week of Norfolk Admirals training camp. The numbers will change and the players will change. Head coach Trent Yawney is building a team for this season, with many players who are new to the American League. "The biggest jump they ever make is the one they are making now. From juniors or college to pro and unfortunately the learning curve is pretty steep so they have to learn on the job and learn quickly."
No doubt the new players have heard about last years team which came up short of making the playoffs. Yawney has made his point to the players.
"That's what we left them with last year. Not making the playoffs is unacceptable. Not that we are going to bring it up everyday, but we have to learn from our past."
Yawney feels this team has to find some consistency and that begins early on in the season. Stefan Noesen is new with the team. Life all these players, Noesen is fighting for playing time. "If you go hard night in and night out and play great on defense, than that goes a long way with coach."
