Mental Wellness Virtual Forum for Student-Athletes Set For Oct. 27
“A Pandemic Playbook” to Bring Together Local Coaches, Athletes, Mental Health Experts

NORFOLK, Va. (Oct. 17, 2020) – The COVID-19 pandemic has led to canceled games, disrupted seasons and a general sense of uncertainty for student-athletes nationwide. As they wrestle with so much change, maintaining their mental wellness is critical.

The Hampton Roads Sports Commission, Virginia Sports Hall of Fame and The Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters (CHKD) are proud to present “A Pandemic Playbook: Mental Wellness for Student-Athletes,” an online forum featuring area coaches, former athletes and health professionals, on Tuesday, Oct. 27 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. The forum is intended for athletes, parents and coaches to understand the physical and emotional challenges that athletes face today.

Viewers will learn to recognize mental health symptoms that indicate that an athlete needs support. Panelists for the special forum include:

  • Dr. Andrea Arcona, CHKD psychologist
  • Dr. Joel Brenner, medical director of CHKD’s sports medicine program
  • Elliott France, senior soccer player, Cox High School
  • Chris Scott, head football coach, Oscar Smith High School
  • Dr. Rachel Turk, staff psychologist for University of Richmond’s athletic department

The event will be moderated by Hampton Roads Sports Commission Executive Director Claudell Clark. To register, visit the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce web site at this link.

The Hampton Roads Sports Commission, Virginia Sports Hall of Fame and CHKD would like to thank Atlantic Bay Mortgage Group, DAVCON, Inc., Optima Health, Priority Automotive and the City of Virginia Beach for their support of this forum.
