Harbor Park in Norfolk Getting a facelift

Workers moved dirt on the baseball diamond at Harbor Park on Wednesday as part of the Norfolk Tides’ efforts to replace the ballpark’s playing surface. After the five- to six-week project is complete, the Tides will move parts of the outfield wall 10 feet closer to home plate to make the park less pitcher-friendly. The playing surface being replaced was original to the ballpark, which opened in 1993. Workers from Nolan Thomas & Co., sport turf contractors from Oxford, N.C., started a renovation of the playing field at Harbor Park last week. The entire job is scheduled to take six weeks and will include new sod.
