NORFOLK, Va. --- The Hampton Roads Sports Commission, an affiliate of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, recently hosted the first-ever Hampton Roads Corporate Challenge, held from April 19-23, 2016. Just under 50 companies participated in the inaugural event, which featured eight different sports including basketball, bowling, cornhole, golf, kickball, ropes course, tug of war and a 5K race. It was an opportunity for companies to compete against other companies from around the region to focus on team building, employee engagement, health/wellness and fun networking.
Bryan K. Stephens, President and CEO of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce stated, “The recent Hampton Roads Corporate Challenge, organized by the Hampton Roads Sports Commission, was a huge success and sparked a new type of fun and excitement for our business community in the region. According to all the participants, the event was very enjoyable and rewarding and significantly enhanced organizational teamwork and morale. We hope you will encourage other companies to compete next year. This is a great event!”
Optima Health, winners of the Hampton Roads Corporate Challenge Cup, included, "Optima Health was proud to take part in the inaugural Hampton Roads Corporate Challenge. As a company that strives to improve health every day, we enjoyed the fresh air and physical activity, while competing on a friendly level with fellow local businesses. We look forward to next year's Corporate Challenge and encourage other companies to join in the fun."
Companies were competitive all week and teams who finished in first, second or thirdplace in each sport received trophies and medals. Additionally, all participating teams received points towards their weekly total based on where each team finished per sport. The point totals were then added all together to determine the top three highest overall winners. The top three overall companies also won money for a non-profit of their choice. Some of the non-profits receiving donations include the American Heart Association, Multiple Sclerosis, WalkMS and tHRive- the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce Young Professionals Organization. Congratulations to the top three teams that were crowned overall champions:
Overall Grand Champions: Optima Health - 3,680 points
