Hampton Roads Sports Commission Helps Bring "Color Me Rad" 5k Run to Virginia Beach
Fun Run will take place on May 6 at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex

Hampton Roads, VA — The Hampton Roads Sports Commission is pleased to announce that “Color Me Rad” will take place for the first time in Hampton Roads.  This event is a 5 kilometer, untimed, fun run, in which participants get coated with a rainbow of colored dye as they run through the course.

Morgan Lang, Associate Executive Director of the Hampton Roads Sports Commission, said, “In February, Color Me Rad organizers contacted the Hampton Roads Sports Commission because they were interested in bringing this unique event to this region.  The Sports Commission reached out to local cities and conducted site visits across Hampton Roads with organizers.  With a pre-existing 5k cross country course at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex, it was an ideal environment for this family-friendly event.”

“Color Me Rad” will take place at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex (2181 Landstown Rd.) on Sunday, May 6 beginning at 9am.  For more information and to register, visit https://www.colormerad.com and select the Virginia Beach event.  When registrants use Promo Code “HRSC,” the Hampton Roads Sports Commission will receive a portion of the registration fee, which will help the organization attract additional athletic events to the region.  The cost is $35 for regular registration (deadline is April 6) and $40 for late registration (deadline is May 3).

Matt Ward of Color Me Rad, said, “We are thrilled to bring this one-of-a-kind event to southeastern Virginia for the first time.  Our goal is to grow the event and make it an annual run in Virginia Beach.”

The Hampton Roads Sports Commission, an affiliate of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, plans to bring more events to the region, including track and field championships, military events,

Can-Am Police and Fire Games and other multi-sport events.  These events create a positive economic impact to Hampton Roads, as well as increase visibility for the region.  In January, the Sports Commission held its inaugural “Celebration of College Football Awards” dinner, and on September 28 will co-host the Hampton Roads Golf Outing with the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce.
