First-Ever Hampton Roads Corporate Challenge Is a Big Hit for the Region

The Hampton Roads Sports Commission hosted the first-ever Hampton Roads Corporate Challenge, April 19-23. The event, which featured eight different sports including basketball, bowling, cornhole, golf, kickball, ropes course, tug of war and a 5K race, was an opportunity for companies to compete against other companies from around the region in each of the aforementioned sports and earn points towards a weekly overall score. Almost 50 companies participated and brought their best team spirit, while improving health and wellness, employee engagement and team building.

Tuesday, April 19th kicked off the competition with kickball at the Princess Anne Athletic Complex. 18 teams competed in the kickball portion that featured some great action!  Later that afternoon, the bowling portion took place at Pinboy’s at the Beach.  A lot of friendly competition and networking took place during the event. Wednesday, April 20th completed our bowling and 3v3 basketball portions of the Corporate Challenge. Day two of bowling at Pinboy’s was another great day for team building! 3v3 Basketball was hosted at Virginia Wesleyan College later that evening. Congratulations to the following teams for placing in the top three for Wednesday’s events:

Thursday, April 21st included golf at Cypress Point and then the ropes course at The Adventure Park at Virginia Aquarium. Golf kicked off with shotgun start at 9am, followed by a catered reception and silent auction. Companies enjoyed the time they spent with one another on and off the green! The ropes course was unique to see unfold. Many teams were eager to tackle the challenge that was upon them in the trees. Saturday, April 23rd wrapped up the Corporate Challenge event week. The 5K run, cornhole, and tug-of-war took place at Chesapeake City Park and featured over 30 total teams for its respective sports. Congratulations to the following teams for placing in the top three for Saturday’s events:

Companies were competitive all week, which made for an exciting final day to see where they racked up against one another. Teams received points towards their weekly total based on where each team finished per sport. The point totals were then added all together to determine the top three highest overall winners. The top three overall teams also won money for the charity of their choice.

Overall Runner up: Buffalo Wild Wings – 3,130 points

Overall Grand Champions: Optima Health - 3,680 points
