HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) – Community members are invited to support the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team (WWAST) this weekend.
According to the Wounded Warrior Amputee Softball Team’s website, the organization’s goal is to raise awareness of the sacrifices and resilience of our military. The website describes the team as being made up of young, athletic veterans and active duty soldiers who have lost limbs while serving their country.
WWAST players come from all over the country – from Fort Worth, Texas to Van Nuys, California – and have various amputations.

Locally this weekend, Spartyka Nation is teaming up with WWAST for the second annual Softball Classic, which helps raise funds for the group.
Friday, the team will go head-to-head against Local Heroes at Kempsville Pony Fields in Virginia Beach. That game starts at 7 p.m.
Saturday’s double-header takes place at Harbor Park in Norfolk, ahead of the Norfolk Tides game. WWAST takes on ADS at 3 p.m., and then the ODU/NSU ROTC team at 4:14 p.m. The Tides game kicks off at 7 p.m. with an opening ceremony, and the team will play the Columbus Clippers.
Organizers say tickets are $11, and include both Wounded Warrior games, as well as the Norfolk Tides game (use the Promo Code “Spartyka”).
Spartyka is also involved in organizing other Wounded Warrior events in Hampton Roads, including the Spartyka Wounded Warrior 5K and Spartyka Wounded Warrior Celebrity Basketball.
