Hampton Roads Sports Commission Announces Eric Marvin as new Executive Director

Eric Marvin began serving as Executive Director of the Hampton Roads Sports Commission and Vice President of Sports Development for the Chamber on April 7. The Hampton Roads Sports Commission (HRSC) is an affiliate of the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce. In these roles, Marvin is responsible for researching and bringing amateur sports to Hampton Roads and maintaining fulfillment for HRSC membership and sponsorship support. He will also lead the operations, logistics, and promotion of the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) Junior Olympic Games returning to Hampton Roads in 2015, 2020 and 2025, along with the Can-Am Police and Fire Games in 2018.

The HRSC is bringing the AAU Junior Olympics and Can-Am Police and Fire Games to Hampton Roads, so Eric is coming on board during a crucial and exciting time for the organization.”

Eric Marvin brings extensive experience in destination leadership, sport marketing and management to the Sports Commission. Most recently, Marvin served as Executive Director for Lawrence County Tourism in Lawrence County, Indiana; where he led the sales, marketing and operational initiatives of the organization. While in this position, a few of Marvin’s contributions included refining the focus of area promotions and developing mechanisms for revenue enhancement, while extending the reach of promotional efforts. He also established a new strategic plan for future tourism promotion that included the development of increased sport-centered events in the area. In addition, Marvin was part of a team of community leaders that secured a $19 million Stellar Communities grant through the state of Indiana.

Prior to Lawrence County Tourism, Marvin served as the Director of the Hoosier Sports Corporation in Bloomington, Indiana; leading sales, marketing and development efforts. During Marvin’s tenure, the Hoosier Sports Corporation successfully recruited and managed several national championship sporting events with prestigious organizations including the Amateur Athletic Union, Amateur Softball Association, Big 10 Conference, Indiana High School Athletic Association, National Collegiate Athletic Association, USA Track & Field and USA Water Polo, along with several others. Under Marvin’s leadership, the HSC’s economic impact increased by over $5 million annually.

Marvin, originally from Elkhart, IN, is a graduate of Indiana University with a Bachelor’s degree in Sport Marketing and Management and Business and is a member of the National Association of Sports Commissions.
