East Carolina's Brandan Stith to transfer to ODU

East Carolina freshman Brandan Stith, son of Old Dominion assistant coach Bryant Stith, will join his father at ODU, several sources confirmed Sunday.

The 6-foot-7, 215-pound Stith led the Pirates in rebounding this season, averaging 6.3 in just 19 minutes per game. He averaged 4.5 points and blocked a team-high 39 shots.

His addition continues the remaking of a roster that lacked size this season. ODU has also received commitments from 6-7 high school senior Zoran Talley of Indiana, and 6-8 Javonte Douglas from the College of Central Florida. The Monarchs are hoping to add as many as two more interior players in the spring signing period, which begins Wednesday.

Stith, noted for his 7-foot wingspan, played for his father at Brunswick High, where he and brother B.J., who has signed with Virginia, led the Bulldogs to three straight state titles. He'll be granted his release by ECU at the end of the semester and will be required to sit out next season as a transfer.

The elder Stith, who played for 10 years in the NBA after finishing his college career as Virginia's all-time leading scorer, joined ODU's staff this year.
