VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Former major league players Dontrelle Willis, Vladamir Guerrero, and even Roger Clemens are playing or have played in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball Clubs.
The Atlantic League has agreed to put a team in Virginia Beach, if a group of investors can build them a home. Virginia Beach Professional Baseball, LLC hopes to build the stadium next to the Sportsplex.
It is an interesting concept, the team would play in a small but quaint 6-thousand seat ballpark and the ownership group want to build as many as a dozen baseball fields around the park to host youth baseball tournaments. The Atlantic League has a team in Texas which averages over 66-hundred fans a game, one on Long Island, two in New Jersey, two in Pennsylvania, one in Connecticut and one in southern Maryland.
Investors in Fredricksburg hope to build a stadium there and get a team, The league averages just over 4-thousand fans a game.
