The Hampton Roads Sports Commission
In February of 1999, the Hampton Roads Sports Commission (HRSC) was formed as a public/private partnership among seven cities of the Hampton Roads Region of Coastal Virginia: Chesapeake, Hampton, Newport News, Norfolk, Suffolk, Portsmouth and Virginia Beach, and the Hampton Roads Chamber.
The Commission’s primary function was to attract major amateur athletic events to the area while emphasizing regional collaboration. The primary focus over the past 16 years was to host the AAU Junior Olympic Games once every five years.
More recently the HRSC works with three cities of the Hampton Roads Region including: Chesapeake, Norfolk and Virginia Beach.
The HRSC operates as an independent 501 (c)(6) organization, as an affiliate of the Hampton Roads Chamber and the Hampton Roads Chamber Foundation.
Our Mission
The Hampton Roads Sports Commission is committed to strategically attracting, creating and hosting high caliber sports events, while fostering city cohesiveness and enhancing the economy, image and quality of life for the region.
