MLK Day Esports Tournament Rescheduled for March 13

NORFOLK, Va. (Feb. 6, 2022) - The MLK Holiday Esports Tournament, originally slated for Jan. 17, has been rescheduled for Sunday, March 13, at the GameOn Gaming Center in Virginia Beach.

The Esports tournament, produced by the Hampton Roads Sports Commission, will consist of a “Youth-High School” division for gamers ages 8-17, who will have the choice to play either Fortnite or Super Smash Bros. and a “World” Division giving players 18 and over the choice to play either Madden NFL 22 or Super Smash Bros.

The “Youth-High School” division tournament will kick-off at 10 a.m. (check-in/free play begins at 9:30 a.m.) and run until approximately 3 p.m. The “World” division competition will begin at 3:30 p.m. (check-in/free play begins at 3 p.m.) and run until approximately 8 p.m. The registration fee for the Youth-High School division will be $10; and $15 for gamers to participate in the World division competition.

Prizes for the Youth-High School division will be awarded in the form of gaming related gift cards and will be awarded to the top four places for each game (eight total winners), featuring a $200 gift card as the top prize for each game title. The top four winners (eight total winners) of each game title within the World division will be paid out from a $1,500 total prize pool with a championship or first place payout of $250 for each game title.
